For those of you who know me and my writing well, you should be well aware of my love-hate relationship with titles.
Sometimes they just come to me (read: maybe 5 times EVER). But more often than not, I have a really hard time with them. I’ve had friends over the years think of them for me or sometimes it came down to the wire with choosing one right before publishing whatever fic it was attached to.
With this novel, I was somewhat relieved because I knew I had time to think of one without the pressure of having to choose before I posted the first chapter. And, when I imposed my deadline on myself last week, I knew I still had that time…kind of.
By my estimate, I have around twenty chapters left in the book with a deadline for XMAS. I realized that I needed to choose a title, like, YESTERDAY. I had been tooling around with a few ideas, and had reached out to my dear friend and trusted beta for her opinion. (She got to see the outlines for the whole trilogy, the lucky lady!) In the end, I wound up going back to what I had originally thought of, with a few minor adjustments.
I’m not saying what I’ve chosen will be the ultimate end-all title of both the series and the three books included within, but I’m feeling like it’s pretty much it. I’m not ready to reveal what said titles are to the public just yet…but I hope I can unveil them soon. I just have to be a little more sure that it’s exactly what I want to do first.
I’m counting this as a huge win, a giant hurdle leaped. When someone says something is the “bane of their existence”, I surely know where they’re coming from. So, barring any changes of heart, this trilogy and her volumes probably have a title.
After nine months of work.
